Don't miss the Met's rare and magical production of Francesca da Rimini, live in movie theaters this Saturday, starring soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek in the title role and tenor Marcello Giordani as her lover Paolo.
In the story of the brave but doomed Francesca, Westbroek captured "Francesca's vulnerability in the softer, lyrical moments… her voice had enough heft to accurately cut through the swelling orchestration" (AP).
The opera, inspired by an episode of Dante's Inferno, is "sumptuous to look at," and Westbroek's "strong and powerful voice conveys all the passion and pathos of Francesca's plight" (Huffington Post).
Marco Armiliato conducts Zandonai's sweeping score live in HD this Saturday, March 16 at 12:00 pm ET (live transmission to Europe begins at 5:00 pm CET).
